At the start of the game, access to the faction system is locked. Finishing [[l:The Torment Stag]] grants access to the subfable 'An Invitation', which upon completion unlocks Faction Tales for your chosen starter faction.
When you first log in, you will get the choice of your starter gear and faction, which will be translated with your totem once faction access is granted. All 3 factions share the goal of restoring peace to Alca and to rid the world of Ode'n influence.
Factions have their special hubs called [[l:Enclaves]], where you rank-up and redeem rewards. They also use the name of their faction in full : Alca's Children, Kith of Kings and Silent Rose; each with their own leader. The Enclaves are also relays where you can see other players.
In exchange for help provided for their 'cause,' the player will earn standing that can be traded with the leader of the enclave to acquire, [[l:Dracs]], weapons, [[l:Pacts]], Armor as well as [[l:Sacred Shimmer]].
To earn standing for a Faction, the player must start helping it by doing Faction Tales.
It is possible to change factions; this is done by crafting another Faction's Totem and talking to their respective leader.

As of Preludes 10, Faction tales are split in 3 tiers, signalled by the amount of stars in the map marker.
Finishing a Faction tale has a chance to reward a variety of weapon fragments. This is the only way to obtain fragments for the starter weapons. Be advised that if you are an agent of the Silent Rose, you cannot acquire [[l:Thistle]] fragments, knights of the Kith of Kings cannot acquire [[l:Wulder]] and Alca's Children cannot acquire [[l:Gwylen]].
Faction Tales give different Standing yields depending on its tier and enemy level. Level range for enemies is based on the location of the starting waypoint and stays consistent throughout the Faction tale. The northern side of the map usually offers high level Enclave tales, and the Southern one, low level ones.
These are the most rare Enclave tales to come across.
Members of your faction will spawn near you; their locations will be marked on the map and the compass. If you have trouble spotting the messenger, use Soulmode to highlight them. Once you've interacted with a faction member, the faction tale will begin.
All tales are made of one or several tasks that need to be completed in sequence and, for Tier 2 and 3 tales, conclude with a special end task.
Depending on the tier, the Enclave tale will have varying amounts of tasks:
Some Enclave tales have split paths.
Even if it is not common practice, you can switch paths by completing the unfinished stages. Even if the objective marker is hidden, it stays on your map. Clearing both paths does not give more standing or rewards as of now.

Fight a stationary turret.
You can use a thunderstone if you have one in your inventory.
PURLOINED PARCHMENT:

You will face a small group of enemies. You can kill the Ode'n Messenger or sneakily steal the intel off of their back.

Find and steal the intel. It can be either on a table or a crate.
AIM FOR THE EYE:

Target both of the Moaners' eyes to destroy it.

Only in the Glades. Target both of the Moaners' eyes to destroy it. Usually consists of several Moaners in different tiles.

Find the fipple statue and use your fipple flute to restore it.

Find and destroy 5 Ode'n Mistrels scattered across the area. This stage usually spawns in villages.

Find and interact with a Thunderstone. Usually found on the floor or inside buildings.

HARK, THE COLLECTOR:
INTERCEPT THE SKYWARD STRONGBOXES
The Collector will come down from the sky. You will have to fight a few waves of enemies before fighting The Nimrod.
If you have a thunderstone, place it inside the animal cage to skip the fight again Nimrod.
Despite what the stage objective says, the strongboxes are currently not in the game.
SPIRIT OF ICHOR:
PURGE THE [[l:vadagarstag:VADAGAR STAG]]
Move close to the patch of boiling ichor. The Stag will emerge from the ground; kill it.
Once you're done with your current tale, you only need to wait in the area or wander around for a varying amount of time to receive a new waypoint; usually between 1 and 6 minutes. Waypoints despawn either after leaving the area for an extended amount of time or after accepting a different Enclave tale.
